Where to Give WHERE TO GIVE MDG Sunday is July 1!

You’ll soon start to see special feedback forms that will allow you to tell us how you’re responding to the Millennium Development Goals. On July 1, we’ll collect the forms and tally the results. To help you, we’ve listed some organizations whose work supports the MDGs. You can make a donation directly or make out your check to the organization of your choice and turn it in on July 1 for us to forward. There are also volunteer opportunities at some of these, and they can always use your prayers!
Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) is our national church’s development organization. Through the Millennium Inspiration Fund and other means, ERD addresses the complete range of MDGs. Specify your gift to support MDGs in general, or shop their online “Gifts for Life” catalog to target individual Goals. Contributions can be made in memory of a loved one or in honor of a friend or family member for a special occasion. Tax deductible.

Heifer International fights poverty and hunger through donations of livestock, training, community involvement and environmental education. Whether it's education for Afghan women or clean water for Nigerian villages, GlobalGiving opens up the world to donors that want to make an impact at the grassroots level. Kiva.org helps ordinary folks become microcreditors. You select a micro business on Kiva’s website and make a loan. Kiva connects your money to the recipient through established micro credit partners. Once the loan is repaid to the partner, you can decide whether to leave it in the system or withdraw it.

ONE Episcopalian is the Episcopal Church’s partnership with the ONE Campaign (the organization to which Bono and other big celebrities lend their voices) in order to end poverty and achieve the MDGs.

Bread for the World is a nationwide Christian movement that lobbies in Washington D.C. on hunger and related issues. Contributions are not deductible. However, contributions to the Bread for the World Institute — their research and education arm — are deductible.

Charity Navigator http://www.charitynavigator.org provides profiles of over 2,900 charities, including pie charts to show how much of your donation goes to program. However, many organizations, including Episcopal Relief and Development, are not listed.
Guidestar http://www.guidestar.org provides detailed information, including IRS Form 990s. Guidestar seems to have a broader database than Charity Navigator, but some information is available only for a fee.
Both
Guidestar and Charity Navigator are, themselves, 501(C)3 organizations.
