Prayers of
the People
December 13,
2009
(written
by Krista Koziol)
Lord God, we come to you in praise and with thanksgiving as we celebrate a
special milestone in the life of this church family. A
decade ago, you blessed this congregation with a rector whom we honor today
as pastor, priest and friend. Your enlightening and empowering Spirit shines
through your faithful servant, Cindy. We pray with her now…
For your constant and abiding presence:
Guide us waking and guard us
sleeping, especially in this Advent season as we wait in wonder for the coming
of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
For strength, guidance and courage:
Energize us and enliven us with your presence, Lord. May we always be
open to your direction in our lives. Give us strength to replace fear with faith
as we put our trust in you.
For growth and renewal:
Grow us in your Spirit, Lord. And
we will be made new creations by your redeeming grace.
For relationship:
Help us to treat others with mutual
affection and respect, for you have bound us together in a
common life. (specific prayers for the parish, diocese, etc., could be
included here)
For the opportunity to serve:
We ask your blessing this day on
our rector, Cindy, and on all who do your work in the church, the community and
the world. May the prayerful commitment and clear vision of all your servants
hasten the coming of your kingdom on earth.
For health, healing and heavenly grace:
We pray for loved ones, friends,
and others in any need or trouble whom we now name aloud or in our hearts. May
those who have died rest in peace and rise in glory.
For peace:
Father, we know that you look with
compassion on the whole human family. Open our hearts to
replace war, violence and hatred with the perfect peace that comes from
knowing you and doing your will.
For love:
You loved us enough to send your
Son to save us from darkness and despair. We now live in the wondrous assurance
of that love and of life everlasting. Shine in our hearts, Lord, as we share
your perfect gift with a wanting world.

A Poem Written for the Occasion
by Ann Pararas
Dear Father, we gather today
To express our thanks to you
For sending Cindy to St. James'.
A blessing through and through.
Throughout your service here
You've grown to mean so much
Little wonder we honor you
For all the lives you touch.
You've been both friend and pastor
To any of us in need
A real source of inspiration
To this parish that you lead.
Yes, we've had some trials
Throughout these 10 years
Yet your faith has kept us strong
As you cast aside our fears.
So together with our praise
May God's blessings be on you
And bring you fulfillment
As surely He will do.
