Welcome:  We welcome all newcomers and visitors to our service.  Please sign our guest book in the church foyer and join us in the parish hall for fellowship and coffee following the services.

Feeling Good Helping St. James':  The St. James’ web site now features a link to our very own Amazon store. Almost all of us use Amazon and now we will have a way for the church to earn money when we shop. By using the link through our web site, you will earn the church up to 4-5% in referral fees from your purchases. What could be better—you still have full access to Amazon products, but now you have a way to lessen the guilt of those easy, online purchases. Once you use the link, you can bookmark the welcome page to the St. James’ store and go there directly whenever you like.  The link to our Amazon store, now on the church's home page is  http://astore.amazon.com/stjamepichu0b-20.

We-Care.com on the St. James' Website:  Our partnership with We-Share.com allows us to receive a donation when you shop at one of their participating merchants through the St. James' website. Visit http://stjamesepiscopal.we-care.com  today!

Adult Forum Today, 9:15 am in the parish hall –

This Sunday marks the second Sunday of our new series, The Life and Writings of C. S. Lewis.  Each Sunday during the summer we will listen to a new, half-hour, recorded lecture by Dr. Louis Markos, professor of English at Houston Baptist University.  Following the recording there will be opportunity for discussion, with additional discussion after the 10:30am service.  It is not necessary to have read any of Lewis' works to participate, and all are welcome.

St. James’ Day - Sunday, July 26  - See the Pilgrim for details

We will celebrate the feast day of our patron saint, Saint James, on Sunday, July 26 with a festive celebration and parish picnic off-site. Please note the service schedule and location of services for this special Sunday:

8:00 am Service –St. James’ in the chapel

11:00 am    Celebration Service & old-fashioned Parish picnic:  We will gather at the home of Mamie Albrecht,  for a special service of worship which will include baptism by full immersion (in Mamie’s swimming pool).

6:00 pm - No Service and No Book Club

Collecting for Fall Rummage Sale:  As we enter the time of year when many people are moving, remember to be on the watch for donations of things being surplused by your friends and neighbors (even if they are not moving).  St. James' has benefited from big windfalls this way, boosting the success of our sales.  These folks usually need to dispose of items quickly, and we can store them in our wonderful shed until the fall sale.  Spread the word, and if you find someone interested in donating items, please contact Don Schuessler f pickup is needed or to arrange delivery.  The donor will receive a receipt for tax deduction purposes.

Support St. James' Backpack Drive

The Interfaith Works Clothing Centers operate a School Supplies Program to provide 3,000 children of low-income clients with new backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies free of charge each August. Missions and Outreach and the Family Ministries Task Force are coordinating St. James' participation in this effort. Our goal is to use M&O funds to purchase up to 50 backpacks and ask members of the congregation to donate the supplies to go in the backpacks. The backpacks will be for middle school students. There will be a table in the parish hall for the next four Sundays where you can drop off donated supplies. We will be monitoring what is donated to let you know weekly what specific items are still needed. Then on Sunday, July 19th, M&O and FMTF will host a coffee hour after the 10:30am service where we will ask everyone to help fill the backpacks. If you have any questions you can contact Jack Linehan or Kris Smithberger. Thanks for your support. Each backpack needs to contain:

A pencil pouch with:
-5 pens
-5 pencils with eraser tops
-1 box of color pencils
-2 highlighters

A 3-ring binder (3" wide) with:
-2 pocket folders
-2 reams of paper
-2 dividers
-2 spiral notebooks

Fellowship at St. James': The Sunday Fellowship /Coffee Hour needs some help. Our various program ministries serve as hosts and provide the snacks, but this is in addition to their many other duties, ensuring that our various programs continue strong. As a result, some of our parish leaders are feeling overwhelmed. It would help greatly if everyone offered to bring some of the snacks on occasion- you don’t have to serve in a particular ministry to help with this. Just sign up for a particular Sunday in the church foyer on the poster. Just make sure that there are NO nuts of any kind in the food.  Some of our parishioners are highly allergic.  Thanks.

Stewardship 2009

If you have not made your pledge for 2009, it's not too late to do so.  Please do it now!

Pledge Commitment Form -2009

A Request:  Some of our parishioners are allergic to fragrances and scents so it would be most helpful if we all refrain from wearing any perfume, cologne or any other heavily scented products.  Thank you.

Do you want to be on our mailing list? Fill out the "Voice from the Pew" card and place it in the offering plate or go to St. James’ website (http://www.stjamespotomac.org) and fill out the information online. We want you to know all the exciting things going on here at St. James’.

Music: We have an active music ministry which includes our adult choir, junior choir, bell choir, praise group, and instrumentalists. All are welcome to participate. Speak with Newton Lewis, our Director of Music Ministries (301-762-8040).

Prison Ministry: St. James’ has a Prison Aftercare Ministry whose purpose is to help inmates at the Montgomery County Detention Center to build constructive lives when they leave prison. Participating church members receive extensive training and are then assigned to work one-on-one (men with men and women with women) with inmates several months before the inmate’s release date. They continue to meet with the inmate on a weekly basis for six months or more after the inmate’s release. A brochure and a video are available to explain the program. For more information, call Jim Finch.

Men’s Breakfast: Every Wednesday morning the men of St. James’ are invited to come together to pray, read, study the Bible and share Christian fellowship over breakfast. The program runs from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. in the parish hall.

Shepherd’s Table: St. James’ provides volunteers to serve a hot meal to the homeless on the 5th Wednesday of the month. Come join this ministry which touches so many lives in our community.

St. James’ Children’s School: Offers an outstanding infant and preschool program, plus a full day kindergarten. Our commitment is to serve the community by providing a nurturing Christian environment, quality child care and a superior educational opportunity designed to prepare children for first grade. St. James’ is "working parent" friendly with daily hours and holiday schedules to meet our parents’ needs.
