Our college-aged youth helped us construct a giant 35-foot square
board, complete with oversized property titles and money. Players
are the tokens and they walk from property to property as directed
by a giant pair of dice. The youth lined up pledges for the hours
they played, and the public was invited to buy half-hour turns
on the board for $5 apiece. If you want to try a Monopoly game
of your own,
all the information you need is in this zip file (1,276KB).
Here you can see some pictures of the game in progress.
Silent Auction
Each spring we hold a special auction of fun items donated by
members of our congregation and solicited from local businesses.
Items include concert and sports tickets, restaurant coupons,
artwork, collectibles, dinner parties, and food items. A favorite
item is a reserved parking space right next to the main door of
our church. Prices of items range from a few dollars to a couple
of hundred. The auction raises about $2,000 per year.
Hire-A-Youth
Those going to workcamp hire out at $10 per hour for various jobs. Types of jobs we've had include helping people move, raking leaves, clearing brush, landscaping, and doing yard work.
Each fall we sell calendars we get from Youth Group Promotions
(800-279-1621). The calendars have a beautiful nature scene and
verse of scripture for each month, as well as a weekly Bible verse.
The calendars bring us about $200 per year.
Christmas Wreaths
Each year we assemble and sell Christmas wreaths that we buy locally.
Each wreath has pine cones and a large red ribbon. We make about
$1,000 a year through the wreath sale. This past season we assembled the wreaths during the beginning of an overnight lock-in. You can see an article about the event (with pictures of the wreath-making) in our News/Scrapbook section of this website. Look for the article "Youth Group Combines Work and Fellowship at Lock-In."
Christmas Ornaments
This year for the first time we sold brass ornaments in the shape
of our church building. Ornaments can be ordered from Jackson
Pacific Inc. at 800-545-7077. Since the minimum order is 288,
we will sell them next year also.
Candy
A year ago we tried selling candy. We sold a variety of standard
brands that came in easy carry-around boxes of about 100. Most
of our youth group said it was too much trouble and took too long
to sell everything, but two or three of our youth sold their whole
box in less than a week. There are a variety of companies that
make candies available for sales.
